MatchPoint NYC staff, members, and Druzhinsky are proud to host several cause-driven fundraisers and events that give players an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in fierce but friendly matches, while also inspiring young athletes to stay healthy, pursue their passion, and do good. In addition to wall ball tournaments, Dmitry Druzhinsky hosts Wall Street finance industry professionals in the annual R Baby Foundation New York Tennis Tournament, which serves to improve outcomes of medical care for infants by funding programs at hospitals such as telemedicine with pediatric experts, mobile simulation training program, symposiums and more. The event has raised more than $500,000 in the two years it has taken place at MatchPoint NYC.
Sports fans mix with politicians, business leaders, media professionals, and celebrities to watch the fast-paced competition each year. Local athletes from Brooklyn and the Bronx have, since 2015, been smashing the ball to the wall in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament at MatchPoint NYC. According to MatchPoint co-founder Dmitry Druzhinsky, a fierce cross-town rivalry has been fostered by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. in order to engage inner-city and under-served youth in physical activity, and also to benefit the U.S. Wall Ball Association’s education, anti-violence and anti-obesity initiatives. The five year old tournament celebrates the life of Jonathan Ray, the late brother of the USWA CEO, who inspired the creation of the association. Dmitry proudly welcomes the opportunity to support such organizations that promote a healthy lifestyle to complex.
According to the U.S. Wall Ball Association, beach-goers hitting an old tennis ball against the sides of wooden jetties back in the 1930s inspired the New York Parks Department to install community handball courts in city parks. Today, wall ball is a professional sport played at athletic centers throughout the country. Dmitry Druzhinsky, co-founder of Brooklyn’s MatchPoint NYC, a premier health and fitness complex, recently welcomed area politicians for the Pro Wall Ball Tournament. This celebrated annual competition – billed as the “Battle of the Boroughs,” raises awareness for youth empowerment and public health. The winning team was awarded a trophy and the next year’s bragging rights.
