Each year, politicians, business and media professionals, and celebrities gather along with sports fans to watch some fast-paced competition. Since 2015 local athletes from Brooklyn and the Bronx have been smashing ball to wall in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament, which takes place at MatchPoint NYC. According to Dmitry Druzhinsky, a fierce cross-town rivalry is led by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to get inner-city and under-served youth engaged in physical activity, and also benefit initiatives from the U.S. Wall Ball Association for education, anti-violence and anti-obesity. This tournament started in 2012 and celebrates the life of the USWA CEO’s brother Jonathan Ray, the inspiration behind the creation of the association. Druzhinsky welcomes the opportunity to host organizations that promote a healthy lifestyle to complex.
MatchPoint NYC members, employees, and Druzhinsky, are honorably the venue of choice for several cause-driven fundraisers and events that give athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their skills in fierce but friendly matches, while inspiring young players to stay healthy, pursue their passions, and do good. In addition to wall ball tournaments, Dmitry Druzhinsky welcomes Wall Street finance industry experts as they play in the annual R Baby Foundation New York Tennis Tournament working to improving outcomes of medical care for infants by funding programs at hospitals. Work includes telemedicine with pediatric experts, mobile simulation training program, symposiums and more, and the foundation has raised more than $500,000 in just two year at MatchPoint NYC.
On top of the nine indoor tennis courts, MatchPoint NYC facilities offer a full size gym with top of the line exercise equipment and three group fitness studios, a junior Olympic pool, rhythmic gymnastics area, a basketball court, Yoga studio, outdoor training field and sauna. There are also competitive MMA and Sambo training programs for kids and adults. As a proud partner of the American Amateur Sambo Federation (AASF), MatchPoint NYC has welcomed athletes from more than 12 countries – including Ukraine, Russia, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Israel, Belarus, Armenia and the States – competing here for international titles, notes Dmitry Druzhinsky.
Beginning in 2015, local leaders from Brooklyn and the Bronx, smash the ball to the wall each year in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament at MatchPoint NYC. The event, started in 2012, celebrates the life of Jonathan Ray, the late brother of the USWA’s CEO who inspired the creation of the association. Dmitry Druzhinsky welcomes the opportunity to support organizations that promote a healthy lifestyle to the fitness center.
As noted by the U.S. Wall Ball Association, beach-goers hitting an old tennis ball against the sides of wooden jetties back in the 1930s drove the New York Parks Department to install community handball courts throughout city parks. Today, wall ball is a popular sport enjoyed at athletic centers throughout the country. Dmitry Druzhinsky, co-founder of Brooklyn’s MatchPoint NYC, an upmarket health and fitness complex, recently welcomed area politicians for the Pro Wall Ball Tournament. This celebrated annual competition – commonly referred to as the “Battle of the Boroughs,” raises awareness for youth empowerment and public health. The winning team was awarded a trophy and the next year’s bragging honors.
