Druzhinsky, MatchPoint NYC members and the staff are happy to be the venue of choice for numerous fundraisers that are inspired by causes and events that give players an opportunity to validate their skills in aggressive but pleasant matches, while motivating young athletes to stay healthy, follow their passion, and do good. The foundation has raised over $500,000 in the two years it’s been performed at MatchPoint NYC.
According to the U.S. Wall Ball Association, back in the 1930s people going to beaches threw a bald tennis ball against the walls of wooden jetties. This sparked interest in the New York Parks Department to make public handball courts in city parks. Nowadays, the game is a professional sport usually known as Wall Ball and is played at sport centers across the country. Dmitry Druzhinsky, co-founder of MatchPoint NYC, a leading health and fitness complex in Brooklyn, was recently joined by leading lawmakers for the Pro Wall Ball Tournament. The annual amazing competition known as “Battle of the Boroughs,” creates knowledge about the themes of public health and youth empowerment. The winning team was given a trophy and a year of bragging rights.

Sports fans mix with politicians, business leaders, media professionals, and celebrities to watch the fast-paced competition each year. Local athletes from Brooklyn and the Bronx have, since 2015, been smashing the ball to the wall in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament at MatchPoint NYC. According to MatchPoint co-founder Dmitry Druzhinsky, a fierce cross-town rivalry has been fostered by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. in order to engage inner-city and under-served youth in physical activity, and also to benefit the U.S. Wall Ball Association’s education, anti-violence and anti-obesity initiatives. The five year old tournament celebrates the life of Jonathan Ray, the late brother of the USWA CEO, who inspired the creation of the association. Dmitry proudly welcomes the opportunity to support such organizations that promote a healthy lifestyle to complex.
