Dmitry Druzhinsky notes that the R Baby Foundation is America’s foremost nonprofit organization with the mission of saving infants’ lives through improved pediatric care. To date, the organization has donated $8 million to hospital programs and saved more than one million lives in the process. Created by Jason Pinsky in 2010, the charity’s tennis tournament has since happened annually. “Six years ago I saw the foundation was doing a golf event, and I suggested we should do a tennis event. The first year was sort of a test and it went well, and the demand has been high ever since. We bring together a great group of competitive guys for a great cause.” Throughout 2015 and 2016, the Foundation is proud to have raised over $500,000 to assist childcare initiatives including telemedicine with pediatric experts, mobile simulation training programs, and seminars.
On Saturday, April 16, MatchPoint NYC again brought in the R Baby Foundation’s annual tennis tournament. The venue’s co-founder, Dmitry Druzhinsky is pleased to announce that in the second year of hosting the event which featured tennis professionals and Wall Street’s leading financers, over $250,000 was raised.
Back in the 1930s, beach-goers hitting a worn tennis ball against the sides of wooden jetties inspired the New York Parks Department to build community handball courts in city parks, notes the U.S. Wall Ball Association. Today, wall ball is a professional sport and is played at athletic centers across the country. Politicians recently joined Dmitry Druzhinsky, co-founder of MatchPoint NYC, a premier health and fitness complex in Brooklyn, for the Pro Wall Ball Tournament. This big annual competition – known as the “Battle of the Boroughs,” raises awareness of public health and youth empowerment. The winners took home a trophy and a year of bragging rights.
Each year, politicians, business and media professionals, and celebrities gather along with sports fans to watch some fast-paced competition. Since 2015 local athletes from Brooklyn and the Bronx have been smashing ball to wall in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament, which takes place at MatchPoint NYC. According to Dmitry Druzhinsky, a fierce cross-town rivalry is led by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to get inner-city and under-served youth engaged in physical activity, and also benefit initiatives from the U.S. Wall Ball Association for education, anti-violence and anti-obesity. This tournament started in 2012 and celebrates the life of the USWA CEO’s brother Jonathan Ray, the inspiration behind the creation of the association. Druzhinsky welcomes the opportunity to host organizations that promote a healthy lifestyle to complex.
