Business professionals, media, politicians, celebrities, and sports fans gather annually to watch the fast-paced competition. Beginning in 2015, local leaders from Brooklyn and the Bronx have been smashing the ball to the wall in the Johnny Ray Memorial Pro Wall Ball Tournament at MatchPoint NYC. According to co-founder Dmitry Druzhinsky, this cross-town rivalry is led by Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and engages inner-city and under-served youth in physical activity, while benefiting the U.S. Wall Ball Association’s education, anti-violence and anti-obesity initiatives. The tournament first took place in 2012 to celebrate the life of Jonathan Ray, the late brother of the USWA CEO, and the inspiration behind creating the association. Dmitry welcomes the opportunity to support organizations promoting a healthy lifestyle to the complex.
The R Baby Foundation is the first and only nonprofit organization in America with the mission of saving infants’ lives with improved pediatric care, and to this point, has donated $8 million to hospital programs and saved more than one million lives. The charity’s yearly tennis tournament began back in 2010. “Six years ago I saw the foundation was doing a golf event, and I suggested we should do a tennis event,” said founder Jason Pinsky. “The first year was sort of a test and it went well, and the demand has been high ever since. We bring together a great group of competitive guys for a great cause.” Dmitry Druzhinsky notes that the Foundation is proud to have raised over $500,000 for childcare initiatives in the past two years, including telemedicine with pediatric experts, mobile simulation training programs, and symposiums.
MatchPoint NYC hosted the R Baby Foundation’s annual tennis tournament for the second year in a row on Saturday, April 16. The center’s co-founder, Dmitry Druzhinsky, happily announced that over $250,000 was raised at the tournament, which featured tennis professionals and Wall Street’s leading financers.
In its Junior Olympic pool and Kids Aquatic Center, MatchPointNYC offers youth and adult swimming lessons that have become a favorite program of local residents. Swimmers range from toddlers to aspiring Olympians, and the program is led by coach Konstantin Petrov. Dmitry Druzhinsky believes in the value of the program, “Konstantin currently holds a Level 4 Certificate from the American Swimming Coaching Association, placing him in the top five percentile of all coaches in the country.” As a former Olympic Bronze medalist, Petrov brings more than thirty years of experience on the local, national, and international scale to the center.
Coney Island was an area traditionally lacking recreational infrastructure, but is now home to one of Brooklyn’s newest and most popular facilities, MatchPoint NYC. Inspired by his passion for athletics and a devotion to South Brooklyn, entrepreneur Dmitry Druzhinsky co-founded the luxury sports complex in 2013 to fulfill a dire need in his community. Druzhinsky’s dedication to providing New York’s preeminent fitness experience has helped the center become the preferred venue for families, professional athletes, charity events, and world-class tournaments in New York.
